In addition to our larger annual events, the CCB hosts several regular gatherings throughout the academic year. Some take place every month, while others are just a few times a year. Keep an eye on our calendar and Facebook page for the latest information on upcoming events.
Brown Bag Presentations
There’s a lot to learn about youth services librarianship, but thankfully, there are people at the School of Information Sciences and in the community with a wealth of knowledge to share. Bring your lunch to one of our monthly Brown Bag events and hear from the experts about a wide range of topics related to youth services. Recent topics have included library gaming programs, storytime tips and tricks, and makerspaces for youth, but we are always open to recommendations for things you’d like to learn. Check out our archive of event recordings to listen to many of our past Brown Bags, or email firstname.lastname@example.org to suggest a presenter or topic you’d like to learn more about.
Thanks to the Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books, the CCB receives a steady supply of pre-publication books for review. Three times a year, we offer those books to you in the form of our galley giveaways, usually held in September, January, and May. There’s no limit to how many you can take, so it’s a great opportunity to stock up on the latest in fiction and nonfiction for ages 0 to 18. The September giveaway is held in conjunction with our Annual Open House–all the more reason to stop by!
